Project SEARCH Instructor

Riverview School is an independent coeducational boarding/day school, providing a caring community and learning environment for adolescents and young adults with complex language, learning and cognitive disabilities. Residential Supervisor

Job Summary

A 12-month, full-time, salaried position requiring maturity, leadership, trustworthiness, and a positive, proactive, student-oriented style. Provide direct and ongoing supervision and training to all residential staff, with a particular focus on those staff working in your assigned dormitories, overseeing the day-to-day operations of your assigned dormitories (2-3 dormitories) with an emphasis on professional rapport, communication, and responsiveness amongst all members of the Riverview community, contribute to the teamwork needed to develop and implement a highly-structured and therapeutic milieu designed to promote adolescent normalization while stressing the tenets of preventive discipline and positive reinforcement conducive to meeting the individual needs of students relative to their unique learning styles, social needs, and the fostering of independent living skills.

Desired qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in Human Services or 3+ years experience in the field of special education, prior employment within a residential setting providing staff supervision and individualized or small-group instruction to adolescents with special education needs. A current valid driver’s license, CORI clearance, and fingerprinting is required.

Requirements

  1. Demonstrate understanding of the School philosophy, policies and procedures and the ability to teach them to assigned staff.

  2. Demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills. 3. Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills. 4. Comply with School, OSHA and Board of Health safety guidelines and trainings.

  4. Maintain professional attire and appearance per School dress code. 7. Supervisors are salaried positions, not hourly. While there will be 40 hours of scheduled time when Supervisors will be present, they will often have to work more than 40 hours/week to get their work done.

  5. Supervisors will check their emails and voicemail periodically when off shift. Supervisors will answer calls from Riverview while off shift when able (within reason).

  11. Promote consistency, clear expectations and fairness in interactions with staff and students

  12. Follow through with any commitments made to families.

  13. Empower residential staff, especially those assigned, by providing them in a timely fashion with all the information needed to work effectively, and involving them actively in decision-making that impacts on their responsibilities, and meeting all expectations outlined in their job descriptions.

  14. Reinforce staff, especially those assigned, by implementing motivational strategies which boost morale, increases job satisfaction, and creates a work atmosphere conducive to developing professional self-esteem, and meeting all expectations outlined in their job descriptions.

  15. Train and supervise staff, especially those assigned, in developing and implementing dormitory and individual routines and activities emphasizing structure, a positive “dorm chemistry,” adolescent normalization, and the development of independent living and social skills.

  16. Train and supervise residential staff, especially those assigned, in the proper and timely use of all communication systems and related documentation. Follow-through on supervisory duties activated by the processing of such documentation, such as creating and implementing requested/required interventions, contacting parents and/or select and proper staff, and generating/distributing documentation to bring closure to the matter.

  17. Empower residential staff, especially those assigned, by informing them in a timely fashion as to their performance, recognizing note-worthy

  18. performances or accomplishments, and providing encouraging,

  19. confidential, constructive criticism where and when necessary.

  20. Monitor and counsel staff who regularly call out sick or have used more than their allotted sick days.

  21. Participate in a rotating schedule, providing campus-wide supervision during residential hours, of residential staff and students.

  22. Maximize communication, teamwork, and problem-solving by actively participating in meetings with Advisors, Administration (as necessary), Head Teachers and other team meetings (i.e., I.E.P.s, SPMs, TPMs etc.) following through on and documenting needed/decided/assigned plans of action in a timely and responsive manner.

  23. Regularly conduct and document supervision meetings held with each assigned staff (at least monthly) and dormitory observations (at least monthly) providing the necessary guidance and feedback to assure that individual staff and team efforts are maximized in efforts to meet the needs of each student.

  24. Train and supervise assigned staff in creating and maintaining individualized student personal development goals (PDGs) and the strategies to successfully achieve such goals, including the student in the process.

  25. Participate in and supervise staff in the completion of “Travel Day” responsibilities and dormitory closedown procedures.

General Management Responsibilities

  1. Serve as the liaison for the Residential Department, establishing an interactive rapport with other departments and the family for assigned students. Work in a collaborative manner with each student’s Advisor relative to transdisciplinary team meetings and intervention strategies. Coordinate with the Wellness Coordinator to integrate the tenants of wellness into the residential program.

  2. Review each assigned student’s file and share pertinent information with the dormitory staff teams. Participate in updating student profile sheets and completion of other student evaluation procedures (i.e., visiting students).

  3. Coordinate with the office managers to assure that Residential Staff are on duty during all awake non-academic hours and that each dormitory has a Residential Instructor on duty including overnights.

  4. Oversee the timely completion of fire drills (random and unannounced) for assigned dormitories, assuring that they occur at least four times a year and take place on all shifts, as well as one drill during sleep hours.

  5. Participate in the development, establishment, and refinement of all aspects of the Residential Program, and preparations to maximize readiness relative to the start of each new school year. This includes reviewing and updating student and departmental manuals and responding to concerns, needs, and ideas to enhance the student residential experience.

  6. Adjust work schedule as needed to maximize active participation and access to parents during Opening, Parent Conferencing, Transition, and Graduation Weekends.

  7. Maintain departmental personnel files for assigned staff so that they contain:

    • written summary of supervisory meetings.

    • dormitory observations.

    • activity monitoring sheets

    • work schedule or performance-related documentation.

    • copies of progressive discipline notices.

    • copies of annual performance evaluations.

    • absence reports

    • copies of completed (annual) orientation checklists, sending the original to the Business Office.

    • copies of correspondence.

  8. Across all settings provide the emotional support, safety and physical care as needed to students experiencing seizure activity or requiring first aid. Provide non-violent crisis prevention and management for emotionally/behaviorally acting out students consistent with related trainings.

  9. Provide on-call services days scheduled to work, but during off-duty hours including through the night to address matters such as those related to student behavior/emotional difficulties, emergency weather conditions/preparations, and maintenance of mandated staffing levels/ratios.

  10. Assure that safety policies and procedures are followed at all times.

  11. Complete other assignments/responsibilities as assigned by the H.S. and Grow Program Coordinators and/or the Director of Student Life.

Part Time Evening RN - School Nurse

Reports To:  Director of Health Care Services

Main Function:

We are seeking an RN who exhibits autonomy, flexibility, and a positive, proactive, student-centered approach.

The RN promotes and restores students’ health by completing the nursing process working in Riverview School’s onsite Health Care Center. The RN will collaborate with multidisciplinary team members on campus.  Our dynamic Health Care Team works cohesively to provide 24/7 care to our student population.

  • Excellent Nursing Assessment Skills

  • Provide direct professional nursing care, first aid, illness/injury assessment, and emergency care to students

  • Administer medication with a physician’s order, per policy and state guidelines for medications in schools

Maintenance Tech

Reports to:

Director of Facilities

General Performance Responsibilities:

  • Perform various work in the ongoing maintenance and repair of our facilities and equipment.

  • Read, interpret and prioritize work orders

  • Respond to emergency situations when called upon by a Facilities Supervisor.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable safety standards.

  • Troubleshoot and perform corrective maintenance

  • Identify and correct health and safety issues

  • Assist the Director of Facilities with special projects.

  • Perform corrective action and preventive maintenance regarding building systems.

  • Maintain records of work performed including materials used; turn in received work orders daily; request materials needed according to established guidelines.

  • Perform seasonal landscaping and snow removal:  Shovel, plow and/or treat properties; Perform snow removal operations and run associated equipment as directed

  • Effectively and safely operate a variety of tools and equipment used

  • Prioritize and review work when completed for quality workmanship.

  • Establish and maintain cooperative, professional and effective working relationships with others.
